Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Detected in Missouri Flocks
Two domestic flocks have tested positive for HPAI.
(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) – The Missouri Department of Agriculture has confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in two Missouri backyard flocks in Cedar and Daviess counties.
Flock owners should protect their flock by preventing contact with wild birds and practicing strong biosecurity.
If producers suspect signs of HPAI in their flocks, they should contact their veterinarian immediately. Possible cases should also be reported to the Missouri Department of Agriculture at (573) 751-3377 or
animal.health@mda.mo.gov.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, HPAI detections in birds do not present an immediate public health concern. It remains safe to eat poultry products. There is no risk to the food supply and the affected birds will not enter the food supply system.
