A $295 million settlement has been announced in a class action lawsuit against Stericycle, Inc., that will affect many veterinary medical facilities. A federal court in Chicago, Illinois, recently provided its initial approval of the settlement, paving the way for the parties to begin mailing notice of the settlement to potential class members regarding their rights and their potential claims. Notices may be hitting mailboxes as early December 1, 2017. The lawsuit involves certain Stericycle customers between 2003-2017 who were charged and paid more than their contractually-agreed price for Stericycle’s medical waste disposal goods and services under Stericycle’s “Automated Price Increase Policy.”

Veterinarians and veterinary medical facilities receiving a postcard or other mailing regarding this settlement are encouraged to review the material to determine the best way to proceed. In addition to mailing materials to class members, the parties to the lawsuit have also set up a website that includes comprehensive information about the lawsuit, the settlement, who may submit a claim for a portion of the settlement funds, and how to submit a claim:
