We are pleased to announce that we have been notified by the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs that the decision regarding all veterinarians needing DEA licenses has been rescinded. All requirements and enforcement will revert to the status prior to the announcement made earlier this week, including allowing multiple veterinarians to use one DEA license in their clinic.

This is the result of swift and effective reaction by your MVMA leadership team, invaluable input from our legal counsel Sean Edwards, highly responsive and valuable input from AVMA, as well as the individual efforts of our members. Thank you to all involved.

Missouri BNDD informed the DEA that BNDD would begin by handling this as an educational effort and attempt to assist unregistered associate veterinarians into compliance by encouraging them to obtain a federal DEA number. The DEA has written that the best way to register with them is to use the DEA's online application and registration process at

Veterinarians may obtain a paper application by sending an email to and asking for a paaper application, or you may telephone 1-800-882-9539 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:50 p.m. Eastern Time on federal work days.
