Missouri Volunteer Veterinary Corps

 

The Missouri Volunteer Veterinary Corps (MOVVC; “The Corps”) is a project of the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association. The Corps is comprised of of Missouri veterinarians, animal health technicians, and veterinary students who have volunteered to respond to animal emergencies.

 

 

Mission Statement

The mission of the Missouri Voluntary Veterinary Corps is to provide veterinarians and veterinary paraprofessionals as assets in support of government and nongovernment actions in response to the needs of animals and animal owners during disasters.

MOVVC Goals

    • Provide opportunities for 80% of MOVVC members to obtain ICS and NIMS training and certification through accredited courses.
    • Provide Animals in Disaster Response training for 90% of MOVVC members.
    • Provide emergency animal shelter training for 90% of MOVVC members.
    • Register 80% of MOVVC members in the Show Me Response database.
    • Improve the Corps activation process working with SEMA, DHSS, and the MO Department of Agriculture.
    • Establish professional liability coverage for Corps members who are deployed.

The Corps Background

The Missouri Volunteer Veterinary Corps was formed in August 2003. The MOVVC is a project of the MVMA Emergency Management and Public Health Committee. Members of the Volunteer Corps are not required to be members of the MVMA, but membership is certainly a distinct advantage for all veterinarians in Missouri, and is encouraged.
