Become a part of our Heritage League, the cornerstone
of the Missouri Veterinary Medical Foundation.
Membership in the Heritage League helps build an endowment fund that will provide grants and funding for various programs to celebrate veterinary medicine while helping
society.
By making or pledging a donation to the Heritage League you will be ensuring the Foundation’s ability to preserve veterinary medicine’s place in history (and in the public’s mind), as a caring and vital profession. Heritage League funds will not be used for regular operating expenses.
As a public charity, that supports the charitable and educational purposes and activities of the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association, the Missouri Veterinary Medical Foundation focuses on professional and public education and animal welfare issues to further the health of animals in Missouri.
The Foundation plans and implements many outreach programs including educational public events and activities. As part of its overall education efforts, the Foundation continues to develop and enhance the Veterinary Museum as a tool to teach the general public about the profession and about the history of animal health care.
In addition, the Foundation has a presence on the Internet with an interactive website, and its pet memorial
program.
The Foundation’s board is constitutionally comprised of a majority of members who are appointed by the MVMA.
Heritage League Member Honors
As a way of saying thanks to our donors, new members’ names will be listed in the Foundation section of the MVMA Quarterly newsletter and a complete list in the annual member directory.
When attending the annual MVMA Convention, members will have a Heritage League ribbon affixed to their name badge. Names will also be listed in a display at the Foundation’s booth, and will be recognized at the Foundation’s Friday evening reception.
Names of Sustaining Memberships and Founders’ Circle contributors will also be inscribed on a Heritage League plaque located in the veterinary museum. In addition, they will receive an attractive, framed certificate of appreciation to honor their contribution to the profession.

There Are Many Ways to Contribute to The Heritage League
Cash
Cash gifts are the simplest and easiest gifts you can make to the Fund. “Cash” gifts can also be made through credit/debit card trans-actions, personal checks, cashier’s checks, or money orders. Consider a cash gift in honor or memory of a two-legged - or four-legged - loved one.
Appreciated Stocks and Securities
Stocks and publicly traded securities are easy to give and often are more tax-wise gifts than cash. The best stocks to use for charitable giving are those that have increased greatly in value. If you have held them for more than one year, you will pay no capital gains tax on this transaction, and you can deduct the full fair market value. Upon receipt, the securities will be sold and the Fund will receive the full sales proceeds.
Life Insurance
Do you have life insurance policies that are no longer needed? You may either donate the life
insurance policy to the MVMF or name the Fund as the beneficiary.
Retirement Plan
Assets held in IRA, 401(k) or other retirement plans are often heavily-taxed as they pass to your heirs. If you are considering a bequest to benefit the Fund, consider, instead, naming the Fund as a beneficiary of your all or part of such a retirement plan. Other assets can usually be given more tax-efficiently to your heirs.
Real Estate
There are a number of tax-favored ways a donor can make a gift of real estate (including his/her personal residence, farm, commercial property, vacation home, vacant lot, etc.) to benefit the Fund. Such a gift can even be structured to allow the donor and spouse to continue to live in and use the property for the remainder of their lives.
Personal Property
Gifts of tangible and intangible personal property are possible, with the tax-treatment of such gifts varying by the type of asset and the MVMF’s use of it.
Bequests
Leave your legacy with the MVMF by naming the Fund as a beneficiary in your will or trust. You can give the Fund a particular piece of property, a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate.
Gifts arrangements that pay you back:
By establishing a charitable gift annuity or charitable trust with one of the above-listed assets, you may be able to 1) benefit the Fund, 2) decrease your income, capital gains and estate tax burdens, and 3) provide yourself with a steady payment flow for a period of years or the remainder of your life and/or that of a spouse or
loved one.
The MVMF Heritage League Fund is professionally managed and administered by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks. To discuss making one of these gifts to the MVMF Heritage League Fund, please contact the MVMF at (573) 636-8737 or the Community Foundation of the Ozarks at (417) 864-6199.
